Chicagoland Speedway September 7th, 2008 Race Recap by Esteban Morales |
| Scott Dixon came even closer than last year to collecting a win at Chicagoland Speedway. Though Dixon still has not finished atop the podium at Chicagoland he was relieved to walk away with the championship after losing it on the final lap in 2007. Before race officials determined that Helio Castroneves was the winner, Dixon took his helmet off in victory lane and uttered “what” after hearing the track announcer mention Castroneves. The finish was so close, 0.0033 of a second, that Dixon was not sure he won the race. More | |

| Helio Castroneves has forced championship leader Scott Dixon into a final round duel. Despite a strong run that saw Castroneves finish second at the Detroit Indy Grand Prix, Roger Penske’s driver was speechless when he climbed out of his car. About twenty minutes before he removed his helmet, Castroneves was en route to winning his second race of the year, severely cutting into Dixon’s lead with only one points-paying round left in the series. Infineon Raceway August 24th, 2008 Race Recap by Esteban Morales |
| After a near win in Kentucky Team Penske’s biggest hurdle was strategizing how to catch Scott Dixon in the points battle with only three events left on the calendar. A few days before the Grand Prix of Sonoma County was underway, Team Penske temporarily put the points race on hold after one of its transporters, carrying the team’s primary cars, was destroyed in a fire caused by a wheel bearing. | Few drivers on the IndyCar circuit elicit as much controversy as Paul Tracy. Love him or hate him, the Thrill from West Hill returned to open wheel racing at the Rexall Edmonton Indy with a bang. Despite starting deep in the field after an unlucky qualifying session, Tracy drove a smart race and finished one spot shy of the podium. More | |
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course July 20th, 2008 Race Recap by Esteban Morales |
| When the dust settled at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe emerged with his second career win, and second victory of the season while teammate Helio Castroneves finished second and gained on points leader Scott Dixon. Team owner Roger Penske, who typically has a knack for spotting talent, boldly proclaimed that Briscoe “validated himself” and had arrived as “one of the top drivers.” More | |
Nashville Superspeedway July 12th, 2008 Race Recap by Esteban Morales |
| One week ago Scott Dixon tested his luck by spinning himself out of contention in the closing stages of the Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen. Despite the spin, Dixon made up with Lady Luck and returned to victory lane in Nashville for a very wet Firestone Indy 200. After collecting his fourth win this season Dixon pointed out that “a lot of the times you definitely have a strong car and you have a little bit of luck go your way.” More | |
Watkins Glen International July 6th, 2008 Race Recap by Esteban Morales |
| One week after Richmond’s demolition derby the IndyCar Series visited Watkins Glen International in picturesque upstate New York where it almost got away with a fairly clean race. Despite a mostly trouble free 40 laps, a string of yellows and blunders set the scene for Ryan Hunter-Reay’s first major openwheel triumph since his last win behind the wheel of a Champ Car in 2004. | Saturday night’s SunTrust Indy Challenge from Richmond International Raceway featured one of the most interesting starting grids in recent memory. Graham Rahal made the most of the short track layout to qualify third while Buddy Rice continued to squeeze every ounce of performance out of his Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Dallara to line up an impressive fifth. Iowa Speedway June 22, 2008 Race Recap by Esteban Morales |
| Despite being ransacked by Mother Nature, Iowans had plenty to smile about when Target Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dan Wheldon took the checkered flags at the Iowa Corn Indy 250. The packed track saw Wheldon end a string of bad luck and take his first win of 2008. His victory on Sunday was particularly important because of a pre-race vow to donate his winnings to disaster relief organizations. More | |

| One of the biggest headlines of the IndyCar Series in 2007 was Sam Hornish Jr.’s departure from Roger Penske’s open wheel outfit to his NASCAR program. Penske continued to rattle the IndyCar community by promoting Ryan Briscoe from his American Le Mans Series ride to Hornish’s former seat. More | |
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway May 25, 2008 Race Recap by Esteban Morales |
| During the last twelve years the Indianapolis 500 has undeniably produced compelling stories: Buddy Lazier winning with a broken back, Robby Gordon running out of fuel with one lap to go, and Danica Patrick becoming the first woman to lead the event, just to name a few. Despite the story lines, the 500 and American open-wheel racing were marred by a bitter schism between the IRL and CART (which ultimately became Champ Car) that deprived some of America’s best from competing at Indy.
